Some of the similar thing that the four countries had in common was a cat pet. And how they all explore some things by themselves. The baby from Japan and the baby from the U.S. they both have medical care. In the country of Namibia, and Mongolia they both have less medical care. These countries differences are they all have different style how to dress or live, and raise their kids.

ADOLESCENTS AND SELF-CUTTING
Thesis: self-cutting is hurting yourself and cutting without wanting to kill yourself. the three areas i will discuss in this paper will be : why kids cut, warning signs & treatment of cutting and where to find help for cutting. self-cutting is not new but it seems more common. kids will cut themselves with sharp objects such as razors, broken glass or even needles. people cut themselves all over the body but usually where the cuts can't be noticed so they can keep cutting. cutting is not one time thing people will continue to cut. in one study (ross and health,2012) it was found that 14 percent of the students report cutting themselves. studies also shown that girls cut more than boys.
Why Kids Cut
- Take control over part of their lives.
- Be happy & feel relief.
- Sees a peer or a friend that cuts.
- History of abuse.
Warning Signs
- Wearing long-sleeve shirts or pants consistently. (even in warmer weather)
- Cut or burn marks any where in body.
- Finding any sharp objects in their belongings.
- Depression
Finding Help & Treatment
- Mental Health Service
- Counselors
- Psychologist
- Medication
Why kids cut, kids mostly cut to cope with painful emotion and life situations. in the study mentioned above, kids who reported cutting were more likely to be anxious or depressed. kids who cut themselves tended to feel lonely, sad and alone. when kids are depressed and anxious they cut to make themselves forget about life and emotional pain inside. cutting gives kids temporary relief and a sense of control over one part of their lives. after a cutting accident, kids will feel happy or relieved.
Some warning signs of self-cutting are: when they are wearing long sleeves shirts and pants consistently to cover the cutting. other sign is then they have cuts, burns or scars on parts of their bodies. A really good sign of kids cutting will be when they have sharp objects in their belongings. or even when they have blood stains on their clothing. all this self cutting starts from depression or from peers/friends cutting.
The way to treat self-mutilation is to get help to learn positive, health coping skills. to be inpatient hospitalize. to be around a safe, structured environment. go into a treatment with 12 steps to treat cutting and addiction. and to get therapy to talk about it and find out how can help to stop the cutting. and how they feel inside.
Self cutting is all over the world and now a days seems more common. self cutting is not wanting to commit suicide but to feel better about themselves and to not have to deal with the pain. kids who cut feel more relax and happy at times after doing the cutting. its addicting and a lot of kids do it because they see a peer or a friend cut. sometimes that leads to suicidal thought. kids need to get therapy and treatment to be able to stop the cutting. based on the statistics girls cut more than boys. they use anything that is sharp to hurt themselves. they hide the marks so they can keep cutting. and they will to continue cutting. its not a one time thing.

THE CRUSADES
I'm going to talk about The Cursades because that event change the world, why, and how did it change this word.
The crusades were a series of religious expeditionary wars blessed by Pope Urban II and the Catholic Church. The Crusades was set when the Seljuk Turks decisively defeated the Byzantine army in 1071 and cut off Christian access to Jerusalem. The Byzantine emperor, ALEXIS I feared that all Asia Minor would be overrun. He called on western Christian leaders and the papacy to come to the aid of Constantinople by undertaking a pilgrimeage or a crusade that would free Jerusalem from Muslim rule.
Another event the cause crusades was the destruction of many Christians sacred sites and the persecution of Christians under the Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim. Persecution of Christians they were persecuted for their faith. Roman empire controlled the Land early Christianity was distributed across. “The Christian experience of violence during the pagan persecutions shaped the ideologies and practices that drove further religious conflicts over the course of the fourth and fifth centuries... The formative experience of martyrdom and persecution determined the ways in which later Christians would both use and experience violence under the Christian empire. Discourses of martyrdom and persecution formed the symbolic language through which Christians represented, justified, or denounced the use of violence”.
The origin of the crusades is directly traceable to the moral and the political condition of western Christiandom in the eleven century. By the time Europe was being divided into other states. Chrisianity became common I other states or parts of Europe in the east amid wonderful enthusiasm and cries of god will it, all rushed towards the pontiff to pledge themselves by vow to depart for the holy land and recive the cross of red material to be worn on the shoulder.then people sent letters to all the Cristian nations all over Europe.
The Crusades First, destruction of Christian state. many dangers. On the south there was the Caliphs of Egypt, on the east the Seljuk Ameers of Demascus, Hamah and Aleppo, and on the north the Byzantine emperors, eager to realized the project of Alexius Commenus and bring the latin states under their power. In the attempts made to establish the Chritian states the efforts of the crusades had been directed solely towards the object for which the Holy War had been instituted the crusades against Constantinope shows the first deviation from the original purpose.
In this paragraph I talked about the crusades and some of the ways it started and also of some of the other states they have some issue with and the Chritiandom.

FIRE ESSAY
Most of my life I have seen fire as a great thing because every time I camp it gets really cold and being around a fire is the best thing ever. I can also roast marshmallows while keeping warm. Now that I have taken my physical science class I understand that fire might not be the greatest thing.
When fire was first discovered millions of years ago it was really important in the use of helping people cook meals, and to keep them warm. Fire also helped to scare dangerous animals away. Cooking food, instead of eating it raw allowed people to digest it easier. It also gave people better nutrition. Scientific research has also shown that cooked food led to a change in the way the jaw was made which allowed for larger space for the brain to develope.
Fire is also a bad thing because we depend on coal too much. The more coal is burned to make energy, the more air pollution and global warming it creates. Air pollution causes people to die because the air is full of toxins that they are breathing.
My opinion on the subject of fire is that it’s bad more than it is good. Burning too much coal is bad because it will ruin the air. There are other ways to make energy such as water, sun, wind, and natural gas. These safer ways of getting energy are better for the environment and healthier for people.
Fire is not as great as we think it is. My teacher showed me pictures of China’s pollution and I have never seen anything like it. It’s a horrible way to live, just waiting to die of the pollution of the air. If the world doesn’t wake up we will be in big trouble. People die of this. There are safer ways to make energy. Why not be air pollution free?

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
In civics class this trimester, we primarily focused on the presidential election. I learned a great deal about politics and the electro process. In terms of politics view, I learned that I am probably more conservative/ liberal. I also learned how humor could be an important tool to help educate people about the candidates. The idea of the media using political “spin” to help influence the election is another topic we discussed.
I learned that I’m more liberal than conservative. I am liberal because I believe that should have all equal opportunity and equality for all humans. Abortion is something that women decides’ within to keep the baby or have an abortion, “she has the right to decide what happens with her body”. Death penalty my opinion is that all person who murder a lot of innocent people, or not innocent should get the death penalty even though it’s cruel but what they murders do its much worse. Heath Care should be providing equal heath care benefits, even though some people can’t afford paying all the time. The presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney based on the media to influence the election on both sides were talking shit about one another to make people believe what they wanted them to believe. The republican said saying that Obama messed up the economy when the economy had already been messed up before Obama became president after Bush. They also accused Obama of lying and not being a good president with out having any prove. One the other side the democratic said that Romney change his plans two weeks before the election, which it was true, and they had prove to it. The democratic talked about details and Obama’s plans.
The candidate I want it to win was Barack Obama because I’m more on the liberal side. I believe everyone should have all equal rights. Obama was not going to end Heath Care, Food Stamps, programs for education for kids that need it. He was not going to raise taxes. Obama plans were to give more money to schools for education, he going to make more jobs. Obama is also running the programs like “the dreamers” to help Hispanic and to fix a two years work permit in the United States.

ISRAEL WATER TREATMENT
Am going to be talking about Israel water treatment and some ways they use the water to use it wisely. They are all different types of techniques for there water. They are growing more crops with a drop of water. They have more techniques to use their water.
Israel has a Sustainable water Reuse Program aka S-WARP to process physical chemical reactions in which all suspended solids are removed from the waste water. 90% species and fouling issues are eliminated. This program shows that it was been effective treatment capable of producing extremely high quality effluent water suitable for reuse applications.
In January Israel was blessed with abundant rainfall. It was the wettest January on record. Six years ago Israel had a growing water scarcity problem and rainy season wouldn’t help to solve the problem/s. the scarcity water problem are caused of all the factors there is. Israel has three of the world’s largest seawater desalination plants on the Mediterranean coast. These plants are producing 30% of the country’s water supply.
Israel drinking water comes from the sea. 80% comes from the sea. Israel leads the world in waste water treatment with more than 70% of the country’s sewage water treated and about 50% of this sewage waste water goes into irrigation. They are also capping freshwater use in agriculture and replacing it with treated waste water. The policy allowed for an increase in agriculture output and together with grater irrigation efficiencies Israel is getting “more crop for drop”. Yet there is still not enough water to go to the ground. Around 12 million is the population between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
In this paragraph I talked about Israel water conservation and some of the things and programs they have to help them to reserve more water and use it wisely, and to crow more crops with less water. And where there water come from and what they do with it.

IS THERE LIFE AFTER DEATH?
Senior Research Paper
Fatima Villa-Morales
Yampah Mtn. High School
Spring, 2015
Thesis Statement
Is there really life after death? I ask myself that constantly. is there really a heaven or a hell? Is it scientifically proven or not? Is there such a thing as reincarnation? Are people’s near death experiences real? Is death the end? I will be discussing arguments for and against life after death, pros and cons. I will investigate the life after death perspectives of the world’s great religions; Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and the Judeo-Christian tradition. I will also discuss opinions of people who think that the hope of life after death is simply not rational or scientific. As I do this research I will also discover what side of the argument I am leaning towards and why.
Islam and Life after Death
The religion of Islam believes that after a person they will be resurrected spiritually and physically. Every Muslim will be washed and wrapped in a plain white piece of clothing when they die. A special prayer will be performed before they are buried. They refer to this as a final service to show that a person’s existence here on the earth is brief. This is usually done by a family member of the person who has passed away. On the day they die they believe they will see God, “as easily as they see the sun when there is no clouds”. They also have a strong believe that when a person dies there will be life, and in that life there will be no sickness, pain, sadness or death. However, God will punish those who killed, tortured, or created great corruption in society. All will be resurrected to stand before God. It will be the beginning of a new life, and a new start according to a person’s deeds, bad or good, here on earth. They will be separated to hell or heaven. Believing in life after death for a Muslim makes them wiser about the life they have and the life choices they make.
One interesting aspect of heaven in the male dominated Muslim culture is what the man gets to experience in heaven. When a man dies they will go to the, “sensual paradise where they get to have 72 virgins all to themselves. These women are all beautiful, pure, and with transparent bones that will be seen through the muscle and flesh. Their viginas will be appetizing and the penis will never be soft. The man’s erection is eternal and the women will be more than pleased with the man they give her. Muslims say that life after death does not fall under the jurisdiction of science because science is concerned only with observable and measurable information.
Hindus and Life After Death
The Hindu faithful believe that after they die there will be a reincarnation of souls and rebirth. Death is a place where the soul rests and gets ready to return to earth to hopefully live a better life. They believe in the concept of karma; that after you die you will be punished if you did bad things on earth but rewarded if you were a good person. Whether you go to heaven or hell is based on the life you had before you died and that will be your karma. They also believe that life nor life after death is permanent. Death is only a temporary stop to physical activity. the ultimate goal is to escape the cycle of death.
The Hindu Bible, called the, “Bhagavad-Gita” says that the soul travels on two different paths after death. One is the path of the sun, the other is the path of the moon. If the soul travels the path of the sun, it never comes back to earth, but if it travels the path of the moon, it has to come back for another life.
What happens to a soul after death depends on what he did in his past life. If the person made bad choices he will come back at a lower level and pay for those choices. If the person did good here on earth he will go to a higher level, and enjoy the life there.
Depending on the type of Hinduism that is followed, there can be many levels of heaven and hell. Each of the three main Gods of Hinduism have their own worlds where people can go after they die. Vaikunthe is the world of Vishnu, Kaliash is the world of Siva, and Brahmalok is the world of Brahman.
Eventually, a soul after many lives, if their Karma is good, will be, “Liberated”. They are free to go to the higher heavens and become one with the Gods. They are forever free.
The Buddhist View of the Afterlife
Buddhists, like the Hindus, believe in karma and reincarnation. Reincarnation is the idea that after a person dies, they come back in another form. if they lived a good life and did good things. they will have a better next life, their next life will be worse. this is the idea of karma so they can improve on their previous life or suffer the consequences for what they did wrong. This idea of earning good or bad points towards your next life is called Karma. Living a good life gets you a better next life but if your did bad things before you will suffer a worse next life. Buddhists believe that people will keep coming back to different lives until they get to the point of having no desires, where they don’t want anything anymore. Once a person gets rid of all desires, which can take many lives, they reach the Buddhist heaven, a place called, “Nirvana”, which literally means liberation, freeing yourself from all wants and desires.
After a person dies, they go through a process that takes 49 days and determines if they get to go to Nirvana or back to earth for another life. the 49 days are divided up into 3 stages called “bardos”. Stage one last up to 4 days and is the Bardo of dying. this is when people realize that they are dead and are not in their bodies anymore. People who have been revived from death talk about a clear white light. The closer a person is to nirvana, the better this experience. In the second stage, the dead person states having hallucinations, seeing different ghosts symbolizing human emotions and feelings. these ghost/gods can be good and evil. if the person can go through this experience without reacting, they get to move on to Nirvana. If they don't, they come back to earth for a new life. The third stage, or bardo, is about reincarnation, (rebirth) entering into a new life.
Buddhists believe that you can be reborn into 6 possible states; Heaven, which has 37 different levels and where all is good and there is no suffering. Human life, coming back as another person and depending on your Karma, rich or poor, smart or dumb, beautiful or ugly etc. Asura, a place where lower gods live. They are jealous and competitive towards the Gods who are in heaven. Hungry Ghost, a place for people who have done a lot of bad things in life. They are forever hungry and thirsty and never can get satisfied. Animals, where people come back as animals if they have been cruel to animals, and Hell, a place of constant pain and torture, for people with really bad Karma.
The Judeo-Christian Ideas of Heaven. You Only Live Once
The Jewish holy book does not have much to say about what happens after death. It focus’ more on a person’s good deeds here on earth. What happens after death, rewards or punishments, is not as important for them. One important thing that the Jewish religion does look forward to is the, “olam ha-ba” (the world to come). They prepare themselves to enter God’s banquet hall. “this world is only like a hotel, the world to come is like a home”. This gives them the motivation to do good deeds and gives them the privilege of doing good work.
In the Christian religion, the Bible clearly speaks of the existence of heaven. it describes a place where pain, sadness, and death will no longer exist, a place where believers will reunite with their loved ones and there will be joy and peace forever. The Bible gives out clues of what believers will experience beyond death. In the New Testament book of Thessalonians, Chapter 4, verses 16-18, “ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
The first thing that happens for a follower of Jesus is that the spirit and the soul will be separated from the body. Second, they will be judged by God to determine their destiny for eternity. Those who believe in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and have accepted him as their savior will have eternal life immediately in the presence of God. In heaven the soul is made perfect in holiness and the person’s sins will be washed away. Those people who reject Jesus will be separated from God for ever and will also be facing hell for eternity. There will be no second chances. You only die once. There is no reincarnation or rebirth or another life to make it right. From the bible, the book of Phillippians, chapter 3, verses 20-22 says, “And we eagerly await a savior from there, the lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-57 continuing by stating, “ Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep; but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable nature must put on the imperishable and this mortal nature must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory, oh death, where is thy sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Proof of Heaven
Dr. Eben Alexander grew up in a scientific world and became a neurosurgeon, following in his father's footsteps and teaching academic neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School and other universities. He did not believe in the phenomenon of near- death experiences. He believed that there was always a scientific explanation to people’s near death experiences and journeys out of the body. As a doctor he knew how amazing and sophisticated the brain was and how sensitive it could be with even the smallest reduction in the oxygen it received. It was not a big surprise to him that people who had undergone major traumas would return with their near death experience stories, but that did not mean that they had had a journey anywhere or somewhere real. Although Dr. Alexander considered himself a faithful Christian, the scientific part of him could not believe that near death experiences were real. However, in the fall of 2008 that all changed. After traveling out of the country, he was infected with a rare bacterial meningitis that completely shut down his Neocortex, the part of the brain that gave people consciousness, the part of the brain where near-death experiences came from. E. coli bacteria had penetrated his cerebrospinal fluid and where eating his brain. He was in a coma for seven days with a totally shut down Neocortex and during that time had an amazing journey to what he could only say was heaven. The doctors who treated him did not expect him to survive and saw it as a miracle when on the seventh day his eyes popped right open. Dr. Alexander realized that there was a consciousness that was outside the brain and that he had experienced something that was outside of brain science. That gave him a scientific reason to believe consciousness after death. He had journeyed to another larger dimension of the universe, “a dimension I’d never dreamed existed and which the old, pre-coma me would have been more than happy to explain was a simple impossibility”. What he saw and learned in that dimension had placed him in a new world, “a world where we are much more than our brains and bodies, and where death is not the end of consciousness but rather a chapter in a vast, and incalculable positive, journey.” Dr. Alexander is not the first person that has had this near death type of experiences. but the first person to have traveled to this dimension while his cortex was completely shut down, under medical observation, and in a coma for seven days. It took him months to recover and finally understand what had happened to him. He now runs a scientific research center focusing on understanding his experience.
Jennifer Perez
Jennifer Perez was a 15 year old girl, raised in a Christian home, who accepted Jesus as her savior 3 years ago. She walked his path for 2 years but when she began high school she started being rebellious, disobeying her parents, and she got into drugs. She left the way of the Lord. Jennifer's parents became very strict with her, they wouldn’t allow her to do anything not even to spend the night over at a friends house. She started doing things behind their backs. sneaking out of her house at nights and skipping school. One night she got into a bad situation at a motel with men she didn’t know and overdosed on some drug. The only thing she remembers from that night was having the experience of her spirit leaving her body. She was already at the hospital and saw her own self laying on the hospital bed just as if she was looking at herself in the mirror and seeing her reflection. When she looked away she saw two men dressed in red asking her to come with them. She then had the experience of seeing doors that led to both heaven and hell and she also saw this great light that she knew to be God. She fell to her knees because she felt dirty next to him. She knew she deserved hell and then two angels took her there to show her what eternity would be like if she didn’t repent and start following Jesus again. God allowed her to come back to life and ever since that moment she has dedicated her life to following Jesus and telling others her story.
It’s a, “Fairy Story”
Stephen Hawking is an English Theoretical Physicist who does not believe that heaven or an afterlife awaits us. He says it’s a, “fairy story,” for people who are afraid of dying or afraid of the dark. Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, a nueromuscular disease at the age of 21. The illness was expected to kill him within few years, but, “despite the cloud hanging over his future,” has led an amazing life. He is one of the most famous scientists in the world and has lived with the disease for the past 49 years. He is not afraid of dying but he is not in a hurry to die either. he still wants to do a lot of things first. In 2010 he published, “The Grand Design” and on the first page stated that God did not create the universe.
The best argument that people have that don’t believe in an afterlife is simply that there is no evidence. Even though there are thousands of people who claim that they have had an out of body experience, there has never been a controlled scientific experiment that shows that anybody actually leaves their body. Most people who don’t believe think that out of body experiences are nothing more than hallucinations. Scientists believe that these kind of experiences are all connected to the brain and when the brain dies, these kind of experiences die too. If near death experiences come from our consciousness and consciousness comes from the brain, than it’s all over when the brain dies.
An interesting study was done on jet fighter pilots who were put under extreme gravitational forces to see how much they could take in combat. They found that under such pressure, blood flow to the brain went way down, the pilots lost consciousness and had near-death experiences. Some of the experiences that the pilots shared are very similar to near-death episodes, such as: a tunnel with a bright light, a sense of floating out of their body, short dreams of beautiful places, euphoria, and seeing family and friends.
In one article I read, the author, who is an atheist said that,” The concept of a soul has been invented by religion because many people have trouble facing their own mortality.” He also says that, “ The human body is nothing but a set of chemical reactions. your ‘soul’ is make believe just like Santa. When the chemical reactions cease, you die. That is the end of it.”
Conclusion
This topic is of great interest to me because I would like to know what will happen to me after I pass away. Before doing my research, the idea of heaven or hell, or life after death didn’t really matter much to me. It was more like a curiosity, but now that I have read these articles, listened to people’s opinions, and learned the point of view of different religions I am much more fascinated by the whole subject. It made me think deeper and analyze the topic. There is a lot of interesting information and whether or not it is real, it has made me think. I never believed that there was heaven or wasn’t really interested about God, the Bible or religion at all until one day a lady comes knocking on my door. She asked me if I would like to start taking Bible Study classes with her and I told her no. She asked me, “Why not, have you studied it before?” I answered, “Nope.” She then made the analogy of a parent trying to get their child to eat something new. If you don’t try it, you won’t know if you will like it. She asked me to study for one hour and If I didn’t like it she wouldn’t ask me again and would leave you alone. I said yes and, well, I liked it. I had never studied the Bible before or knew anything about it but I thought it was interesting.
I think I am leaning more towards the Christian viewpoint because it seems more realistic to me. The Buddhist view is also interesting because of its idea of karma and moving to different stages of new life. I don’t know if I will ever get involved in one particular religion; maybe I’m just not the religious type.
